"..I came across the group on Instagram and I am so glad that I did. Not only has it helped our Sesame with her reactivity, but has provided a great community of other small dog owners. Both Sesame and I look forward to our play sessions and walks with the group. Carlos and team are beyond helpful and provide a safe space to correct behavioural issues without punishment. I’ve been struggling for some time to find a trainer that focuses on redirecting vs punishing. As well they offer a ton of items for rent or purchase such as treat puzzles and other enrichment ideas for your pup! If you have a small dog, pls check them out!"

FAQs

Can reactive dogs participate in group activities?

Yes, but the right activity matters.

From Barking to BFFs is specifically designed for dogs who bark, lunge or become overwhelmed around other dogs. Some dogs with milder reactivity may also be able to participate in a group walk or Focus & Impulse Control class if they can remain comfortable with appropriate space.

If you are unsure, contact me before booking rather than testing your dog in an environment that may be too difficult.

What if my dog barks during a group activity?

Barking does not automatically mean your dog has to leave. Depending on the activity, we may increase distance, change positions, give your dog a break or adjust what they are being asked to do.

The important question is whether your dog can recover and continue participating safely, not whether they remain perfectly quiet.

Do dogs greet each other during the group activities?

It depends on the service.

Appropriate social interaction is part of Small Dog Play Sessions. In the training classes, group walks and reactivity class, dogs are not expected to greet each other. Please avoid allowing an on-leash greeting unless I specifically let you know an interaction is appropriate.

Can dogs of all sizes participate?

Several options are open to dogs of all sizes, including Focus & Impulse Control, Group Adventure Walks & Hikes and From Barking to BFFs.

Small Dog Play Sessions are specifically for dogs from 5–15 lbs, while Small Dog Agility Sessions are designed for dogs from 3–15 lbs. Always check the individual event details before booking because requirements can vary by activity.

Can I attend if I have never trained with PMEZ before?

Many group activities can be booked without having completed private training first, provided your dog meets the requirements for that particular activity.

If you are unsure whether your dog can participate comfortably and safely, you are welcome to contact me before booking.

What vaccinations does my dog need?

Health and vaccination requirements can vary depending on the activity and venue. For example, a current rabies vaccination is required for Group Adventure Walks & Hikes, while indoor services may have additional veterinary requirements.

Check the individual service or booking details before attending so you know what applies to the activity you have chosen.

What should I bring?

Requirements vary slightly between activities, but treats your dog enjoys and appropriate walking equipment are useful for most training-focused services. Individual booking details will tell you about any additional equipment, veterinary records, toys, water or other items required for that activity.

Can I bring a retractable leash?

For training classes and group activities where dogs are working near one another, a standard leash is generally the better option because it provides more predictable handling and reduces the risk of tangling.

Follow the equipment instructions shown for the activity you are attending.

Can I try different group options?

Absolutely. The services are designed around different goals rather than being a progression you have to complete in a particular order.

A dog might attend Focus & Impulse Control for training, join Adventure Walks for outdoor enrichment and participate in another activity for a completely different reason. Choose the experiences that actually suit your dog.

Can I attend the same activity more than once?

Yes. Returning gives your dog additional opportunities to practise around different dogs, people, environments and distractions while still working within a familiar activity format.

This can be especially useful for skills such as focus, reactivity, confidence and comfortable movement around other dogs.

What if my dog is not ready for any of the group options?

That is completely okay. A group environment is not a prerequisite for having a well-trained or fulfilled dog.

Private Dog Training or The Dog Training Lab can provide a more individualized environment where we can build the skills your dog needs before deciding whether a group activity would be useful later.

Where do the group activities take place?

Locations vary depending on the activity. Current group services take place throughout Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and surrounding areas, with individual booking listings showing the exact location for each scheduled session.

What training methods do you use?

I use positive reinforcement/reward-based, evidence-based and force-free training. I do not use prong collars, shock or e-collars, leash corrections, intimidation, or dominance-based training. We’ll focus on positive reinforcement, management, clear communication, and work at a level where your dog can successfully learn.
