Understanding dog reactivity
Reactivity describes a dog's responses to situations that may be emotionally difficult or highly exciting for them. Two dogs might bark at another dog for entirely different reasons. One may be afraid, another frustrated, and another simply struggling to manage their level of arousal. Understanding what's happening for your individual dog matters far more than applying the same technique to every reaction.
My approach focuses on body language, distance, management, positive associations and helping dogs develop more comfortable ways of navigating the world. We won't force greetings or demand that your dog tolerate situations they find overwhelming. Instead, we'll create opportunities for learning at a level where your dog can still feel safe and make choices.

📍 Where: Your home within my service area, outdoor private sessions in the Square One/Mississauga area (or can be arranged to take place in North York if closer to you).
🐶 Who it's for: Dogs struggling with reactions to dogs, people or environmental triggers.
How it works
We'll start by learning about your dog's triggers, history, body language and daily routines. From there, we'll develop management strategies and gradually practise appropriate skills in real environments. Outdoor work will be adapted to your dog's comfort, including the amount of distance and exposure involved. The virtual session gives us another opportunity to review what you've been experiencing and adjust the plan.

FAQs
Does my dog need to meet other dogs during training?
No. Your dog doesn't need to greet, play with or interact directly with other dogs to make meaningful progress. Comfortable observation, creating space and moving away can be important skills.
Can we work with a dog who reacts out of excitement rather than fear?
Yes. Reactivity can involve excitement, frustration, fear or a combination of emotions. The first step is understanding what may be contributing to your dog's reactions.
Is the Barks to BFFs group class included?
No. The class is available separately when appropriate. This Pooch Pack focuses on individualized private training, and there's no expectation that your dog must join a group.
Will my dog stop barking or lunging completely?
Every dog's progress is different. Our focus is on improving comfort, recovery, communication and your ability to manage challenging situations, rather than promising that reactions will disappear entirely.
What if my dog can't handle an outdoor session yet?
We'll adapt the session to what your dog can manage safely and comfortably. That may involve working from greater distances, choosing quieter environments or using another suitable arrangement.
